type='text'>2008: The year to dominate

Happy New Year.

2007 was indeed another great year. Everything keeps getting better and better except for my body... gained a few lbs, but 2008 will remedy that. Highlight of the year: Completing the guitar build.

Here it is... completed and ready to roll

I'm 99% finished building this guitar. I actually got to play it live this past weekend and it sounded quite lovely.

So here are the completion pics: (my mother-in-law commented that it looked like a toy. grrr)

For 2008, I hope Enik and BTP finally makes it big time... they definitely deserve it.

Almost done....

Got the body and neck assembled today... but I'm still not done, so this is a progress report.

I still need to wire up the electronics and buy a switch (does anyone one have an extra one? or know of a place that sells em for cheap?)

I need to adjust the truss rod to perfection, and maybe file in the nut slots more to fit 11s.

I might put a ghost pickup underneath the pickguard in the neck position cos I have an American Tele neck pup lying around.

Still need to finish the neck, but I'm still thinking of which method to use.

Need to add a string tree(s) but I'm still thinking about which ones to use as well. Decisions decisions...

I also need some barrel knobs.... or whatever knobs... any suggestions? The ones on there now are for my other tele so they're not gonna stay on this one.

I did get a chance to string it properly and she rang out pretty loud acoustically, so I'm pretty happy with it. It's funny, I've been blogging since 99, but it's been recently that I realized how important journaling is. When I talk to older people, they seem to remember the year of every event in their life. I could barely remember when I graduated from highschool... or even how old I am sometimes. I'm 30 btw. People are always quick to remind me when I "conveniently" forget. Anyhow, life is good.

So here's the lowdown...

I am about to finish my 2nd term at Art Center. I got about 6 or 7 more to go.

So what have I learned lately? I've learned the fundamentals of design... and realized how much of that I was missing. My design has been dictated by the web for so long, that it's refreshing to break out of it. It's nice to work on huge posters to print out and 300MB motion graphic pieces.

My passions, have they changed? Nope. It's still music first, then design. In a perfect world, I'd be great at both equally. Unfortunately, I'm not that great at either.

But it's ok, because the highlight of my education has been to build my own guitar. After I'm done with this one, I may build a few more in my lifetime, but this has definitely been on my "before I die to-do" list.

Oh yeah, and I'm still married and love every minute of it.

<img Even when it's noisy in here cos my blaring guitar amp, I still love it. It's MY noise. No more political, racist and religious rants from work. No sir. It's good to be away from all that right now.

There seems to be so much more errands since I've been home. I hope it works out.

Life sucks for you? Sent it to a guy in NC. :(

But on the bright side... I have a brand new Larrivee D-03E, fresh from the Larrivee factory in Canada, coming to me. I bought it from Guitar Adoptions and it still hasn't reached their store yet. According to the tracking number, it will be in their store Tuesday... upon which they will inspect it and send it out to me same day. So in essence, I will have a fresh guitar. How exciting.

Oh, and Scott bought one too, with me... so we got a killer deal on em. $850 a piece. No tax. Building my first effects pedal. This means I'm gonna return the Peterson Strobostomp I ended up buying. That was such an impulse buy. I wanted to find a tuner that was brighter than the cheapy one I use (which works fine btw). I originally wanted to get a Korg DT10... considering I had one day to get ANYTHING at cost from Guitar Center. They didn't have Korg products. So I ended up buying the Strobostomp... just cos I got a ridiculous discount. So from the original price tag of $190, I got it for $120 or something. Stupid cheap, but still more than I wanted to spend.

Well the DIY bug bit me, and I decided it's more important for me to get a DIY pedal. Besides, who needs a tuner that tunes to the accuracy of -1/+1 cent when you have Scott on stage with his crazy capo? Best tuner we have on stage is a Boss TU2 (-10/+10 cent accuracy). So it was overkill for me to keep the Strobostomp. Besides, I can use my brothers TU2 if I want too. Not as accurate for studio use, but a workhorse on stage. There's a reason why it is the most popular stage tuner in the world. Simple and effective.

Claustophobia

Well, according to this definition, I don't have it.

Claustrophobia: is an anxiety disorder that involves the fear of enclosed or confined spaces. Claustrophobes may suffer from panic attacks, or fear of having a panic attack, in situations such as being in elevators, trains or aircraft.

But last night, I found myself feeling suffocated while having a birthday party for 3 of our friends. I don't have a "fear" of any kind, but I do find myself feeling anxious and wide-eyed when put in a prolonged situation where there is a lot of people bussling about in an enclosed area. Basically, I just need to get out.

By the time I finished helping the hosts clean up and wash the dishes, everyone was already leaving... Basically, there I was, trying to pack up as soon as I can to get away from the noise, and when I finally got to go, everyone was leaving anyways. It's as if I was getting beat up, and as soon as I found a way out, they stopped.

Anyways. I've been feeling so blah about gatherings lately.

Guitar of the Week 17

Taking a break from PRSi and Les Pauls, here is a hand made Artinger Hollowbody guitar. What can I say about these guitars other than they are fabulous instruments. I've never had the pleasure of playing one, but with the long waiting list and the pretty penny you'll spend on one of these, I imagine they are incredible. No two Artinger guitars are the same. "Father Lord God" has literally replaced "Umm". Not to trivialize any part of prayer or to make fun of anyone, but during community prayer times, I've come to a place where I've been counting every "Father Lord God" that people say. I blame it on Mike Yamamoto. Years ago, he brought this to our attention... and I couldn't stop counting ever since. But it's become such an epidemic that even people who don't normally say "umm" use "Lord God".

So do you say "Lord God" in every sentence of your prayer? I think when Yamamoto pointed out this interesting subject, he meant to teach us not to waste words with God. I mean, how annoying would it be for you if someone was talking to you, and every other word he say "umm"? Ummmmmmmmmmmm.... Now imagine, if you replace all those "umms" with your name. "So I went Luke to the mall Luke. And Luke I bought some nice Luke shirts from Luke Banana Republic that Luke was Luke on sale Luke. But Luke the best thing that happened Luke is when I ran into my friend Luke..."

Fruition

"Fruition" (pronounced "Froo-i-shun") has somehow become a buzz word in prayers lately. Not all ramblers use it... but the first time I ever heard the word was when someone was rambling in their prayers. Ramblers tend to use "Lord God" a lot... but most importantly, they repeat the same things over and over again until they finally find something else to pray about. These are the same ones that, when asked to pray for Lunch, they end up praying for world peace... "Fruition" will DEFINITELY make it into that prayer.

The funniest part about people who repeat their prayers, is when they can't find different words to substitute... so they pause... and then somehow "fruition" sneaks in. Hehe.

BTW, "Fruition" means 'Realization of something desired or worked for; accomplishment'.

So now that I have shared my pain with you. Next time you get asked to pray BRIEFLY or to give a BRIEF testimony... do everyone a favor and check to see if you're just rambling. ;)

Cheers!

Some more pictures of my geeetar gear.

Gotta love it. He had a lot of good gigs under his belt including John Mayer. The amp was in pristine condition. He claimed to only have used it twice in the studio for a couple sessions and was selling it cos he needed an HK amp for his next gig.

Well $650 for a pristine, 2 month old DSL50 is a really good price.... considering the day before, Guitar Center's price is somewhere near an astronomical $1350 new.

Joey actually had a Marshall 1960 Lead cabinet too that he bought with the amp. He offered it for $350. Considering it was in the same pristine condition as the amp, I snatched it up as well. Literally, he could've taken it right out of the box before I got there. It is clean. Not to mention, he threw in a Monster speaker cable.

So how did I find this guy? Here's the story.

Two days ago, I returned the Mesa Boogie Stiletto and tried a couple other amps at GC while I was there. I ended up loving the DSL50 for it's dirty sounds... Cleans are "ok" at best. But with the new $1350 price tag, there was no way in hell I was gonna buy it. BTW, it's funny how the GC salesmen always try to give you "store credit" for your returns. haha. I got a full refund to my Check Card.

One day ago, I looked for DSL50s on ebay, recycler and craigslist. I came across an ebay auction that had no pics but claimed to have a like-new mint DSL50 with a "Buy It Now" price for $650. Now I know people weren't bidding on it because it "looked" shady. Anyhow, I saw that the guy lived in Arcadia, about 25 miles from my place, and that he left his phone number on the auction to call if you want any info on the amp.

I called. He convinced me it was legit. And I convinced him to pull the auction cos I had "cash in hand" and wanted it, given it is indeed legit... also, it would save him ebay fees and shipping hassels. He pulled the auction. He told me he had the cab as well. I took that too.

Nice guy... but I didn't bring up anything about the new GC prices. I scored big time. Thank you Lord.

How do you cope?

How do you cope if your mother passes away from cancer while you're young. Most people are racist as in Mark Furman. Yup, the guy who completely botched up the OJ case. The star gone sour. I'm sure many people have uttered words similar to his.. but have friends (close friends) of all kinds of ethnicities.

Well, back to my coworker. He's so free to say such words as "Don't do that, or I'm a get Israel-y on you." Referring to the recent tension that some say Israel is overreacting to. He's not a bad guy, but I can't help but think that if he was in a court situation, he would be defamed like Mark Furman and be forever branded as THE RACIST... when in actuality, he's just like everyone else.

Speaking of racists... I was watching a Chris Rock stand up comedy routine and I must say... he's pretty funny. Aside from all the cursing, he's got some clever punchlines. "Who's the bigger racist: White people? Or Black people?..... Black people! Cos not only do they hate white people, they hate black people!" and "There are two types of black people: Black people and Niggas." Chris can't stand Niggas. "What do you mean you can't get a job??? I got 2!"... said the black person to the nigga.

It's funny because it holds water. There will always be those bad apples who abuse their Free Katrina money to sell and buy drugs and use a fake ID to get some more money from the government and then complain about the horrid conditions and how the government hates black people. According to Chris, you're not just black, you're a nigga. BTW, he's allowed to say that, cos he's black -- reference from the comic-strip-turned TV show: Boondocks.

Anyways, my coworker is a racist.

And I have a lump in my throat, cos I'm still sick.

Stem Cell Research Veto

I HATE GEORGE W BUSH.

Line6 POD 2.0 Clips

Here's some clips I did about 3 years ago featuring my POD. It was really nice to see Raina again.

Team Suzuki!

I should have a Mesa Boogie Stiletto Trident coming in soon. See pic below. I managed to snag one from Guitar Center while they were still blowing them out for $850. Perhaps my amp search will finally come to an end.

In another potentially weird development, I am gonna have dinner with my ex-girlfriend's parents on Thursday... Thursday is Raina's birthday... but she'll still be at Navajo Missions. Anyhow, I didn't really want to call Gaby's parents back because of the akwardness, but Raina insisted I do so. It must be hard for them since Gaby passed. And yeah, if I was they, I'd like to connect with all the people that were influences in her life too.

It's summer for crying out loud

I hate my office. Hiking from the North side of Yosemite to the South side in 3 feet of snow is no good. Thankfully, we only got lost 3 times, and the snow eventually cleared up when we got to the downhill part. 3 days in the wilderness can do things to you. For me, it gave me blisters on my feet and sore legs. My sanity was almost lost the first night though.

This time, my pack only weighed about 50 lbs. If you carry a pack for 3 days, it almost becomes a part of you. Experiencing the difference in gravity when you remove it, is strange for a few minutes.

The plus side was, there were sights that NO ONE will ever understand unless they walked the steps we did those 3 days... so I will not try to explain them.

I am glad I'm home though. I will never go back.

Ok Soon Ryoo

Passed away: 05/31/2006 at 9:15am

Dellllllll

So yesterday... we gave my brothers and my parents their gifts we bought in Hawaii.

James just bought a new Lexus IS... but the shocking part was, he decide to give away his Honda Accord. However, the actual house is great. So many "thank you's" have to go out to my brothers and sister and Bo... for the so many hours of cleaning they've put into the new place. My family has been so supportive, it's unbelievable. My brothers moving all my stuff into the new place while I was on my honeymoon, my parents looking for furniture for me even though I should be doing that... It's hard for me to be on the receiving end of such "blessings", cos I'm such an independent person... but I think I am being humbled and changed. Thank God for such a tight family... it really shines brightly now a days.

Married life is great so far. Raina and I are really happy and blessed. It's funny because I've always thought we'd be the same after we marry... and I think we are. We would get so many warnings of how things would be totally differnt, and how we will have to "exclude" ourselves from others, how we would fight, and all the bad habits would start to annoy us leading to more fights... etc. So many people have warned us about this that I actually started to worry about how cavalier Raina and I were going about all this and that once those things happen, I would be starttled... so I even prepared for these "shocking moments". Funny... we're still so chill about everything. I guess because we have been so thorough in our getting to know each other, that everything just fell into place as it should be. "The Road to Hana" wasn't "The Road to Divorce" for us... we actually had a good time with each other... despite my sore neck from looking at all the sights while driving for hours. I think we'll be ok.

Today, I bought another guitar. The PRS Hollowbody Spruce I've been wanting. Pics to come later. Raina is so understanding to put up with my guitar fetish. Later tonight, dinner with my family to celebrate James' birthday. Hasn’t the success of “The Purpose-Driven Life” made activities like that more difficult?
It brought in ton of money and a ton of attention. But my wife, Kay, and I still live in the same house, and I still drive the same old truck. We had to think about how to handle the stewardship of affluence and influence.

What did you decide?
First, we decided that we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We don’t really spend money on ourselves. I stopped taking a salary from the church three years ago, and then I added up all that the church had paid me over the years and I gave it back.

Why?
I didn’t want anyone to think we did it for the money. I knew I was being raised into the spotlight, and I didn’t want anyone to question my motives. I was able to say, I’ve served my church for free for 25 years.

What else did you do with the money you earned from the book sales?
We set up three different foundations: Acts of Mercy, which helps those infected with AIDS; Equipping the Church, which trains church leaders in developing countries, and the Global PEACE Fund, which fights poverty, disease and illiteracy. Then we became reverse tithers ... We give away 90 percent and live on 10 percent. It’s fun to give it away. The harder part was not what to do with the affluence, but with the influence.

F-22 is alive

After much speculation and rumors about the F-22 project being scrapped... it has emerged! There is one girl in praticular that always catches my eye because she just looks so out of place. She looks like she's in her young twenties. Latin girl that speaks only broken English. She is sort of good looking... definitely not bad looking by most standards. I always see her in the parking lot taking out the trash or doing other janitorial things. I don't know why, but it looks so out of place.

Why is this so strange to me?

Possibly because she doesn't "look" like the stereotypical janitor? What "is" the stereotypical janitor anyways? Fat, old, short, weathered skin, and zero English? Maybe because she is thin, young, tall, and nice skinned, still little English... I automatically see her out of place.

Does anyone aspire to be a janitor? If given a chance, will those janitors be more ambitious in their careers? I'd like to think so. I guess what strikes me as odd is that she IS young... and usually young people are in school or finished school so they don't have to a janitor.

Or perhaps she just likes doing it.

I still think it's odd... but probably more odd is how I've even thought these thoughts.

Katie Holmes Virgin and Tom Cruise is God?

It's a miracle... After I parked my car. I saw a woman (in her 40s maybe) talking to Mike. She was telling him about how they lost their home, her sister just lost her job... etc. Her sister was in the SUV they had. I guess she was asking Mike for some food. I heard him say "SURE!". I chimed in... and asked, "you want some dinner? Come on in and tell your sister to come too."

But the sister mumbled something and refused to come in... she gave the woman a piece of paper. So I preceeded to take the 40 year old into the Chicken house... she asked for the 12 piece meal... not the 12 piece chicken... the MEAL. So I asked, "Jeez, is this all for YOU?". She replied that she has a family with 3 kids. Ok, now I'm a little bit peeved.

So she orders her food... and then mumbles to me "When we come here, we usually get the 3 side orders extra... but it will come out to $25. Is that ok?" By now, my irritation is showing and I'm utterly stunned by her request. "No. You guys can do fine with just the 12 piece meal (which comes with 2 large sides anyways)." And I look her in the eye.. "I'm not rich either you know."

I've never really been one of "charity" in LA, because I DO believe that everyone here has an opportunity to at-least have some food without begging, but I do consider myself some-what of a generous person. At least I try to be. But jeez, this was kind of ridiculous.

Needless to say, I didn't want anything to do with that lady. I did not say another word to her. In fact, after all the bandmates ordered their food... I just went to sit down. After the lady got her 12 piece... she came up to me and thanked me and said "God bless you." I told her "Alright, take care of your kids now."

I should have probably told her... "If your kids are starving, sell your freakin' SUV."

jeez

I'm so tired.

I just tried to sleep in my car... and ended up sleeping for about an hour and 15 minutes. So far, it's going through the "artists" all around us in the church. Although it tries to encapsulate artists in general, ie: actors, lighting engineers, musicians etc, I can feel that the writer is gearing his message about musicians. Why not just title it "Heart of the Musician"? Anyway, the book is a little contradicting in that it tries to explain the thing that, he says, is impossible for us artists to explain. Get it? Basically, artists are a bit off. The reason why they are off is because, there is no reasonable way to really portray how our heart feels.

Are you a self proclaimed artist? Or is that contradicting in itself? Are you only granted "artist" status if someone else nominates you? And when someone does, do you have to pretend to deny it? And if you do embrace the title, does that make you a fraud? If you say that you are different, are you any differnt at all?

"I don't think you're an artist cos you're not melencholy enough."

How do you manufacture depression? A musician or an artist who's integrity is still in tact, feels the dying urge to capture his state of being. I absolutely love the irony of those super angry metal bands like Slipknot (who are greatly skilled musicians in their own right) who sing about how screwed up everything is... and then go out to after-parties and sign endorsement deals with music companies for even the benign things like: effect pedals or guitar strings. I thought life was incredibly screwed up. Or on the opposite end of the spectrum, boy bands singing about their one true love while having their roadies pick hot girls in the crowd to sleep with in the tour bus. I thought the 80s were over.

No matter what, all the buy-in that artists have to be this and that is a cop-out... even the cop-out is a cop-out. If you're reading this and you think I'm telling the truth... standin' up to da man... then you're a cop-out too. It's cool to be different now a days, like eveyone else is.

Yesterday, I was at UCLA's Bruin Bash... which is an event to promote all the clubs on campus. As I was entering the IM field where all the tables were set up... I saw in front of me, a geek. A full blown typical geek: Glasses, skinny, dad's polo shirt tucked in too tightly into his flooding pants, the belt line above his belly button, loafers, bowl hair cut... As I was gaulking at his bravery to step on the field with hundreds of cool people like me, I noticed 2 more walking with him. One didn't have glasses but he had pimples. I stopped and thought for a while about their utter clueless fashion sense. How can anyone in sun-tanned Los Angeles be as rocket-science geeky as that? ... definitely part of the Science club.

I realized, that they were more true than I was. They embrace their fancinations and run with it... a true passion that doesn't involve being "cool". If you know "how to be cool", then are you really cool? How many of you are actually naturally cool? They weren't, and they showed it... that's pretty cool.

I'm not an artist either... I'm a fraud that put on a pretty good show. And I'm not putting on a show about putting on a show. I wish I was a geek.

Logging in my hours

It feels like Friday. It's because it's the 15th and I got paid. And because I just got done logging in all my hours.

I hate logging in my hours. If I did it daily, maybe I wouldn't have so much hatred for it. But as it is... I find myself lying about the time I spend on things. For example: "Uploading files to new server -- .50 hours -- Billable". Yeah right, it took me like 5 minutes. Yeah, I know it's not a big deal. But the fact of the matter is... I spend time checking emails... some chatting... some reading news... blogging pictures of nice guitars... some off tangent researching (some of it is actually work related!) and I don't know what to log in with that lost time. So I just log it as "R&D". Fortunately, our employer doesn't mind and even encourages us to log in our "personal" time. I think they know that this place is really laid back and if it were not so, it would be detrimental to the vibe of the company. So it's ok... BUT starting next week (as I say every payday): I WILL LOG MY HOURS DAILY!

Now I have to decide whether to get a new Tubed amp or a Breedlove. Some say, this is a good problem.

Guitar 14

Maybe I should rename these topics from "Guitar of the Week" to just "PRS Spotlight".

PRS Santana II Brazilian Limited Edition Guitar #175. You deal with hypocrites at the grocery store, at the filling station, on the job, at school and at the golf course (maybe more there than anywhere else).

You do not quit buying groceries because the grocer says one thing and does another.

but the person who says, "I'm not going to be a Christian! I'm not going to serve God! I'm not going to get involved in the work of the Church because there are hypocrites in the Church," is just logically inconsistent! You do not quit your job because your employers tell you to do something that they themselves would not touch with a ten-foot pole.

You do not deprive yourself or your child of a good education because a teacher teaches one thing and lives something else.

You do not quit playing golf because your buddy takes a stroke in the rough and does not count it when he thinks you did not see it.

Sure there is hypocrisy in the Church, because there are human beings in the Church, and as long as you deal with human beings, you are going to deal with hypocrisy.

Do you want to get away from hypocrisy? Dig a 20-foot hole in your backyard, jump in, let someone cover you with dirt, and even then you are going to be sitting down there in the bottom of that hole with one hypocrite.

There is not a one of us breathing air that is as consistent as we ought to be, but the person who says, "I'm not going to be a Christian! I'm not going to serve God! I'm not going to get involved in the work of the Church because there are hypocrites in the Church," is just logically inconsistent! Nice.

I also got to visit my grandmother yesterday. She seemed like she is improving. She actually waved to me and said "hi". But I doubt she even knows who I am. Her body has shriveled to the point where she is half my size. It makes me think of mortality again. Is she already gone? Or is her spirit in some limbo, still bound by time, until she physically dies? I don't know.

But last night, I struggled all night... wrestling the very thought of salvation and God. How do YOU know what you believe in is real? I know, but I want more. I want OTHER people to know that God is real by just looking at me. But that's impossible.. as Paul has said, that you must work out your salvation daily... Does that mean, I have to do good works to be saved? No. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Like I said before, "eternity is a long time", but let me rephrase that: "Eternity is." It is neither bound by time nor length of time. It's scary, that's what it is. You can't cope with it. You can't run from it. You can barely take measures to prolong your life and actually "have" a life. But in eternity, you have no choice. No "time to serve" for your crimes. No electric chair, then it's over. More like, electric chair, then it STARTS over. Don't be in the wrong place when eternity comes.

Labor Day

If I had a nice Digital Camera like Yong, I could take nice pictures like he does... but I probably wouldn't.

Have a wonderful weekend people!

Remember, eternity is a lot longer than 1 million years... that's a long time to spend in the wrong place. They also did one of those "cuts" in the middle of the video to show more acting... I hate it when directors do that. Why do they do that? It ruins the momentum of the song. Anyways, the whole premise of the video is about 2 kids in love (the first 2 minutes is just them two saying how much they love each other and how they will never leave each other) and then guy signs up for the military without telling her... I spent the next 5 minutes of the video wondering how many times the editors went over the initial 2 minute scene and asking why in the hell it took 2 minutes to determine these two are in love... Anywyas, of course, they get into an argument... and he's like, "I did this for us!!!"... ok...

Then it moves into battle scenes in Iraq or some Arab country after the overplayed "sit down and shave your head for boot camp" scene. With movies out there like "Saving Private Ryan" and my favorite "Black Hawk Down"... why would a director even try to touch a battle scene and make it PG is beyond me. It sucks through and through.

I still can't believe Green Day went along with this. I suspect they got a handsome amount of money to produce this video... but even a generous amount of money to shoot a music video isn't anywhere close to the budget and resources a movie gets.

On the plus side... at least their touring guitarist is in this video. If you seen them live, you'll know important that second guitarist is to achieve their live sound. But I still liked their "American Idiot" video best. The way each character is taped at different speeds but panning and swooping the camera probably made for some tricky Algorithms to figure out.

Thoughts of a thousand nights

Hello... I think I've avoided this site long enough.

There has been much that's happened since my last post:

NAVAJO:
I went to Leupp, Arizona for a full day with my brother. We were joining our missions team out there. My brother has become some-what of a celebrity to the population there. As this was his first year, in the past 8 years, of not joining the missions team to the Navajo reservation... the kids were sad. But as rumor got around that we were going to visit on Thursday, some kids were heard saying that they'd DEFINITELY come to Thursday's VBS even if they couldn't go the rest of the days.

My affection for the Navajo people came a while back when I visited a previous year to put on a concert for them. With my brother as one of the leaders of the team, it's kinda hard not have some passion about the mission. It just so turns out my fiance is also a leader on the Navajo missions team. So visiting this year was also a real blessing for me as I got to see her in the middle of the 2 weeks she was gone.

You know, funny things happen when you go on missions. I am convinced that the mission is more for the missionary than for the people they go to be with. So many people come back changed... how could you not? I see the starving people on the TV screen and watch them with compassion as I eat my steak dinner. I watch the History Channel specials on how the UN did nothing to stop the genocide in Rwanda... and I eat my dinner. I am moved for a moment... but how would one forget if a victim latched on to your arm, begging for you to help her, as she gets dragged away to be doomed? It's not easy to forget when there's a personal connection. And in each mission, there is a varying degree of that kind of connection. You see it in the children's eyes... their cry for help... their love for life and appreciation of what's beyond them. It teaches you (a missionary) a lesson. Hopefully it'll last longer than the time it takes to lift your steak and dip it in your sauce.

Do good.
New York didn't get the 2012... boo hoo.... cry me a river...

“We don’t need reassurance from the International Olympic Committee or anyone else that New York is a world class city,” said Weiner. “We don’t need to put New York on the map. It’s already the center of the universe.”
Ok, I believe I'm a pretty patriotic person. Given that I'm a natural born Korean, I earned my citizenship here in the States... I even lived in NY for several years (I have the scars to prove it). I've even considered myself an "American" before I was naturalized as a citizen. But it's reactions like Weiner's and other idiots in politics that the world press will jump on to smear America more and more. I'm proud of our country... proud of our states. But what he said is just down-right conceited and overstated.

So New York lost the bid to host the 2012 Olympics. Stop crying and look at the poles. The poles alone on MSNBC, when I took it, resulted with 75% of people not caring about losing the 2012 Olympics. As a matter of fact, the IOC says that's why we lost out in the first place... the resisdents just don't give a rat's hole about it. I think New York cares more about what the hell the mayor is gonna so about the new WTC.
London instead was the winner. Bloomberg wished the British capital well, but then expressed hope that U.S. athletes would win every single medal at the 2012 Games.

At least be happy that Paris got beaten out by London in the last moments of the vote. I'm not a fan of Europe at all, but I DO have my favorites within Europe. For example... I like the Brits a million times more than the French. So I'm just happy the French lost. I have no problems losing out to the Brits once in a while, as they are one of America's strongest allies... even though it's a grudging one.

Read article here

School of Rock

If internet gaming doesn't make you stupider, the shock therapy will...

Beijing clinic ministers to online addicts
Routine includes therapy, medication, acupuncture, sports

A 12-year-old boy receives electric shock treatment for his Internet addiction at the Beijing Military Region Central Hospital in Beijing.
BEIJING - The 12 teenagers and young adults, some in ripped jeans and baggy T-shirts, sit in a circle, chewing gum and fidgeting as they shyly introduce themselves. “I’m 12 years old,” one boy announces with a smile. “I love playing computer games. Someone is unloading like it's the end of the world... as if all he's eaten is meat to last him through out the winter. "Ok, I'll just piss as fast as I can and get out of this gas chamber."

As I move closer to the urinal, I hesitate and wonder if the stench is too much... I do a double take towards the door... and by some chance of as if I would offend the source of this stench, in a split second, I decide not to exit the bathroom. I end up in front of the urinal.

I start my deed... choking back my vomit.

But wait....

Not only is this guy tearing it up with obviously no concept of a "mercy flush"...
"Mercy Flush - is the act of strategically timing the initial and usually largest unloading of poo to an initial flush as to not let it stink so much... giving 'mercy' to the ones using the bathroom during or after you.

This act can prove difficult when it's one of those automatic flushers. Just ask Yong."
he's talking on the phone! Talking on the phone while taking a CRAP. I'm thinking... "Well, maybe he was on the can and someone called him and it is a very important call... surely he'll hang up as soon as possible and continue the conversation after he is done... as to not draw any suspicion that he is talking on the phone while taking a dump... a dump of epic proportions. Cos that's just rude right?"

But no..... this guy had no shame... he straight up flushed his business down the toilet with no care as to what the person on the other end might be thinking. As my face is melting off, I'm thinking that the person he is talking to is gonna scream at him for his indecency. And as I wait, wishing my pee would drain faster, they just continue the conversation as if nothing is wrong!

He comes out of the stall... with one hand holding his phone... the other fixing his belt... I want to desperately get of there before he finishes washing his hands (at least he did that)... and I have to time it right as to not reach the door to exit at the same time he does.

As I look in the mirror and wash my hands, I am a little concerned he will see the despairing scrunch in my face... I grab a towel and run out... he was still preoccupied with talking about his dinner plans as he washed his hands.... TALKING ABOUT DINNER PLANS WHILE IN THE CRAPPER! What the hell????

As I am ejected out of the hell hole, I can only compare it to drowning in fecal matter and being instantly hoisted out by helicopter to a clean atmosphere, I cough uncontrollably almost vomiting... by now, I don't even care if he heard me. I stumble back into my office and can't believe what I just experienced.
