how about an orange one?

This morning I was listening to Alter Bridge. The only good members of former Creed reincarnated.
Alter Bridge
This CD sounded better in just sound clips on their website. Now that I have it... with one listen, you already know that the whole album is completely forgettable. The singer's voice is kinda annoying... I can't decide who's voice is more annoying... this singer or Scott Strapp of Creed. But just imagining that I find this guy's voice annoying after one listen, I'd have to give Scott the benefit of the doubt: at least I could stand his voice for 2 albums. But the voice of a singer doesn't really bother me as much as whether he / she stays in key... which he does. So props for that. The thing that bothered me most about this album was the tone of Tremonti's guitar. It sucks. Sure the palm mute chugs sound good... but with that much distortion... there is no tone. It's just noise... it's nothing really new from Creed... other than being more "free" to do what he wants. I don't know if that's a good thing though. This album defintely sounds immature. I'll give them one more chance with a sophmore CD.
Taking Back Sunday
Good CD. Love the radio hits on this album. Don't really like the other songs... but the difference between this one and the Alter Bridge one is that, I can learn to like the other songs. They aren't my cup of tea at first, but I can see how they can grow on you. Taking Back Sunday is an onslaught of Emo Emo Emo... not the Dashboard kind of Emo where you'd have hundreds of pre-pub teens crying at a concert, but the hooks are definitely Emo. A lot of melodic screaming and singing over screams... I like it. That's their gimmick. The guitars and instruments are just average, but the way the singer and the guitarist works their harmonies and vocal arrangements is what makes the band... the thing is... it's not so obvious that you get this "boy band" feel. The vocals kinda put the icing on the cake. I recommend this CD.
Velvet Revolver
Biggest disappointment of an album. If I never "saw" the band, I might have been able to like this CD... but Scott Weiland has got to be the biggest flaming weirdo in music today. This band has so much they can work with... and they chose to go this route... "I'm the rock star! So I can dress gayer than the gayest guy on earth and still be straight." I think make-up for guys is ok, I like low cut jeans and bell bottoms... but Scott, do yourself a favor... and WAKE UP! Some people actually like to hear the music on it's on merit... not cos you're prancing around on-stage like a fairy queen. Jeez. None of the songs on this album deserve any credit to my ears... except maybe "Fall to Pieces".
