Grinch. Or am I?

People pushing and shoving, cursing and seething... to get their friend a gift for Christmas. How ironic.
I was never really known for giving excessively in the Christmas season. But from this year on... I will NOT participate in the "Gift Giving Pagan" season... well, at least until I get kids.
Somehow, the meaning of Christmas has been lost to this pagan tradition. It's not harmless anymore. School districts are banning Christmas songs like "Silent Night" because of it's religious context.... they're even banning the instrumental versions of it.
Technically, Christ was probably not born on December 25th... science shows sometime in April was the day. But it is known that Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Christ... or at least recognize it. Why then has the meaning changed to such selfish tradition?
One can argue... it's not selfish... it's giving!
Then give more abundantly in other times of the year! Is it not better to receive out of thought and heart... as opposed to obligation? My thoughts on this spill over to the whole "engagement" process of buying a diamond ring as well. That's the ultimate stupidity of them all.
There is a story of a beautiful lady that got engaged... and as she was calling her close friends to tell them the good news... one of her friends exclaims, "I can't wait to see the rock (diamond)!"
How stupid is that. No, that's a retorical question... so no question mark there. The girl didn't receive a diamond ring. She received a plain brass/silver/bronze tri-ring. No diamond. But the meaning of his love shone through those hoops as bright as any deep-pocket suiter could have ever boasted through a diamond.
The moral is this... don't get so caught up with the world and it's expectations... it's disgusting. A diamond will mean so much more when it's not expected. A gift will mean so much more when it's not expected.
Oh, incase you're thinking by now that I'm a complete grinch. I decided to take all the money I was gonna use to buy presents this year (which is a large sum of $), and give it to the needy and a friend trying to raise funds for missions...
Please do the same.

More people should do the same instead of buying their already over-loaded friends and family members with more unneeded gifts.
