Stupid stupid
How screwed up is a world, when they can take a Natural Disaster like the Earthquake-Tsunami and somehow blame the president of the US for things like: "He should have spoken out sooner... he's insensitive".
stupid stupid stupid.
The world could wake up to suddenly discover it in perfect harmony and peace TOMORROW... and still they would find a way to blame the US for something: "The Defense budget should have been prepared for peace... and instead of up-armoring humvees, they should have spent money on pink flower patterned uniforms for our troops".
stupid stupid stupid.
I used to think that when Jesus comes back, there is no way that the remaining people can deny what had happened... after all the rest of the outcome is in plain text within the Bible... there would be massive conversions right away. umm... yeah right... I'm convinced now that the stupidity of our world will prevail again.
There will be those who deny the rapture, cos we're not allowed to recognize it as legitimate... because it has a "religious theme" to it. Other priests left behind will say.... "no! that's not the rapture... I'm still here... and he will mass a following." etc etc etc. The stupidity will endure.

People pushing and shoving, cursing and seething... to get their friend a gift for Christmas. How ironic.
I was never really known for giving excessively in the Christmas season. But from this year on... I will NOT participate in the "Gift Giving Pagan" season... well, at least until I get kids.
Somehow, the meaning of Christmas has been lost to this pagan tradition. It's not harmless anymore. School districts are banning Christmas songs like "Silent Night" because of it's religious context.... they're even banning the instrumental versions of it.
Technically, Christ was probably not born on December 25th... science shows sometime in April was the day. But it is known that Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Christ... or at least recognize it. Why then has the meaning changed to such selfish tradition?
One can argue... it's not selfish... it's giving!
Then give more abundantly in other times of the year! Is it not better to receive out of thought and heart... as opposed to obligation? My thoughts on this spill over to the whole "engagement" process of buying a diamond ring as well. That's the ultimate stupidity of them all.
There is a story of a beautiful lady that got engaged... and as she was calling her close friends to tell them the good news... one of her friends exclaims, "I can't wait to see the rock (diamond)!"
How stupid is that. No, that's a retorical question... so no question mark there. The girl didn't receive a diamond ring. She received a plain brass/silver/bronze tri-ring. No diamond. But the meaning of his love shone through those hoops as bright as any deep-pocket suiter could have ever boasted through a diamond.
The moral is this... don't get so caught up with the world and it's expectations... it's disgusting. A diamond will mean so much more when it's not expected. A gift will mean so much more when it's not expected.
Oh, incase you're thinking by now that I'm a complete grinch. I decided to take all the money I was gonna use to buy presents this year (which is a large sum of $), and give it to the needy and a friend trying to raise funds for missions...
Please do the same.

Geetar of the Week Seven
This guitar definitely deserves a slot. I guess it's PRS's take on a Strat. Except the body is made of mahogany as well as the neck. It's a set neck rather than a bolt on. But other than that, I think it functions in the same way as a Strat. Of course, if given the choice between the two, I'd take the PRS in a heartbeat.
I give you the 3 single coiled PRS: SE EG

The Slayer concert was bearable... although I chose not to stay for the Slayer act. The openning bands sounded great. No, not cos of the music... cos of the sound system. The experience itself was only bearable because of my VIP pass. I mostly hung out with the Stars. Frodo Baggins was there. There was a lot of celebrities that you know... but you don't remember their names. Anyhow, the only person I saw back there that really got my attention was Richard Patrick: the genius and lead singer behind the band "Filter". It was kinda weird cos I was just listening to "Welcome to the Fold" right before I turned off my iPod and went into the concert.
Well, since I mentioned Frodo Baggins... I did watch "Return of the King" EXTENDED version.
If you are a Lord of the Rings fan like me, you will love this movie. It does so much justice to the books. I can't say anymore.
Mike, James and I redid the lights in our sanctuary this weekend. They look nice now. I struggled to replace a light bulb, hanging from a 12 foot ladder. And as soon as I was done... the one next to it burns out. blah. No more bulbs... we'll do it next time.

Quiznos and Praise music
I just had Quiznos with my favorite person. Which do you prefer: Quiznos, Subway, or TOGOs? Out of the three, I would personally take Quiznos cos of their Batch 81 sauce. But their soups are pretty terrible. Dah, who am I kidding, all of their soups are terrible. Fast food sucks. I've just been craving good healthy food lately.
I happened to run into an old friend last night while eating. She's pretty lost now. "I just don't feel church anymore." As if church was something to be felt. I think there is a huge misconception in terms of a relationship with our Creator and the significance of our comfort. It's a typical sad story. But other than that, she is doing well. She is in a band and will get regular gigs at a local pub. I don't envy her. But I will go to see her sometime.
I've always been torn about music and it's pursuit. But lately, God has caused me come to terms with the last remaining concepts of music in worship. The music industry is filled to the brim with acts that suck live. Their studio albums sound great, but the performance is so bad. How many bands do you know like this? It'd be easier to count how many you know that are actually great live.
This made me realize one thing... Worship bands are always great live. Why? It's because they are constantly called to perform different songs every week... and be good at it.
One more struggle. I've always struggled with the whole "rock star" association with music. I'm one to shy away from such attention... I even get defensive about it. I just wanna play good music. You see so many rock stars being worshipped... but from a distance. If you ever had a fan that cried at your feet... who kissed the ground you walked... that'd be pretty freaky. But there is complete satisfaction in giving that glory to our Creator. And I can reconcile that kind of worship in music... just as long as I don't get any of it... and it goes to my God. Music is just that powerful... it's emotional, it's spiritual. And the easiest way to give glory to God through music, is in Praise and Worship music. This is how I've come to terms with church music. There is an URGENT strive for perfection in this genre of music... cos our God deserves no less.
Maybe that's why worship bands are so good live.

Blockbuster: The Savior of the Industry?
Blockbuster will be getting rid of the Late Fees. Late Fees gone. Late Fees destroyed from January 2005 on. It will be replaced by a One Week Grace period. Wow! Sounds like a good deal huh???
Blockbuster has a history of shady moves though. And no one really noticed them. Remember when the movies used to be due at midnight? Yup. THEN Blockbuster decided to be "nice" and extend the deadline to noon... the next day. Wow!!! Sounds like a good deal huh??? Wrong! If you think about it, you'd realize that no one rents movies during the morning, so Blockbuster lost ZERO business with this extention. People generally go to work at 9am... and usually, it's routine... they don't wanna go to drop off the movie before work. And usually they can't get off work early enough to drop it off before noon. So this false sense of security that you have another day to return the movie, is just that: False Security.
Blockbuster made tons of money on late fees ever since their implementation of the Noon deadline.

The Coffee maker has been broken since yesterday. I had eventually cut down to one cup a day, but that one cup has become pretty vital. Today, I caved. I just went downstairs to the little mini-mart and bought a cup of coffee. Mmmmmmmmm.
Saosin is a good band. So is my band.... the one I haven't formed yet.... but in my head... yeah....
I unwittingly peeled the callouse off my left-ring-finger-tip and now it hurts when I play my guitar. Feels like my guitar strings are made of knives. It'll be a few more days before it gets calloused again.
I'm trying to find this Jars of Clay live CD. It's the "11 Live" DVD... but my friend has it on CD. He said it was a bonus thing or whatever. Anyhow, I want it.

I'm here till about 6pm today. I'm gonna try to catch "The Incredibles" tonight. But I'm kinda not looking forward to it. Sucks how the movie theatre experience has dulled for me. I just can't stand people in the theatres. What happened to manners and respect for other viewers? The girl wearing the huge wig in the front row has now been replaced by the chatter box, the guy or girl that talks on their cellphone in the theatre. Another thing is the smell. More and more theatres have been doing less about the insurmountable mess that each group of viewers leave after their show. But they've sure managed to make the messy treats more available to the viewing public.

I just went to Best Buy and I bought a Music DVD.
John Mayer: Any Given Thursday Live.
I mostly bought this for my brother... he's a John Mayer fan. I personally hate his music. But I saw a live show on TV... and he's a decent guitar player. He DOES play the electric. He did a tribute to one of his influences: Stevie Ray Vaughn... which I am a big fan of. Even Double Trouble comes out and plays with him. And there is a special guest appearance by Buddy Guy. But we'll see what this dvd holds.
This past weekend, I went to my girlfriend's Company Christmas party at the Jim Henson's Studio. Complete with Prime Rib steak buffet, open bar, live band, and even acrobats. It was decently fun. Oh, btw, my girlfriend doesn't work for Jim Henson Studios... their company just rented it out.
I watched Bourne Supremacy yesterday.
Good movie.
And some bad news: I have VIP Tickets to a Slayer concert on Friday. Opening bands: Mastodon, Killswitch Engage, Fireball Ministry. I know some people would love to have these tix... but I am being forced to go as a work related outing. I'm just gonna hang back stage. There's definitely some talent in those bands... just can't stand the music. Pure crap to me.
Bummer.

Coffee brewing...

I love coffee in the morning. MMMmmmmmmmmmm.
Right now:
- Scott Peterson is contemplating if the death penalty would be better for his appeal process cos it would make it more urgent. Either way: life in prison, or the death penalty... they both suck.
- Jackie and Lee Peterson isn't sleeping much and is sick to their stomach that their innocent son might be on death row soon. He's innocent.
- The Roacha family is still marred by the death of their loved one. Scott is the sole reason for their misery. He is the monster that killed beloved Laci. Divorce was an option... why not take that??? He is guilty.
- Staff Sgt. Johnny M. Horne Jr is thinking, "what the hell???" As he is court martialed for "murdering" an Iraqi civillian out of pity. His unit engaged a truck on a road. The perps were civilians working for the insurgency and were laying down Improvised Roadside Bombs. Upon arriving on the engaged vehicles. One survivor was severly burned and close to death. Witnesses say he was beyond medical attention. Staff Sgt. Johnny Horne then shot the man to put him out of his misery. He pleaded guilty... probably as advised by his lawyer.
- Wild life preservers are scrambling to draw up a plan to try to contain the disaster at Alaska's Bering Sea.
- An Iraqi insurgent ponders how he got into this mess... He just wants to go home. But in order to "get to heaven"... you have to die for this cause. To him, the biblical times are NOW.
- A US soldier is contemplating why he thought he was "doing the right thing" when he enlisted after 9/11. He just wants to go home to his wife and kid. He's already lost his job at home... and his pay check from the military still wasn't enough for his wife to keep the home. They are now living with his parents. He hopes to make it home... not for Christmas... not for a vacation... He doesn't want to be a hero anymore.... he just hopes he'll make it home.
- James Brown is thinking "I don't feel good!"

Just when you thought the French can't get any stupi.... nevermind, read the article
Incase you didn't notice, I really dislike the French. But then again, they hate the Americans 50 times over. Another incase you didn't know, the French helped establish America away from the Brits. And in return we saved their arses more than once... even though they were too scared to support US saving THEM from the Nazis. Anyways, read up... funny article.
"PARIS - Somewhere in the world, there’s a navy blue suitcase with a small pack of explosives tucked in its side pocket.
Four days after police at Charles de Gaulle Airport slipped some plastic explosives into a random passenger’s bag as part of an exercise for sniffer dogs, it is still missing — and authorities are stumped and embarrassed.
Police have sought to minimize public concern by insisting there’s nothing to worry about: The explosives had no detonator and are unlikely to pose a danger.
But that does little to diminish the fact that the French airport security has been planting explosives in the suitcases of unsuspecting passengers — all in the name of safety."
"Two police officers involved in the exercise stashed a cell-phone sized pack of plastic explosives into the side pocket of the navy blue suitcase as it rolled along a conveyer belt.
One dog successfully identified the bag, but police then lost track of it when they went to fetch a second dog for the exercise.
“That’s how the explosives disappeared,” said Bouquin, noting that police have not lost hope of retrieving the explosives —
someday.
“Sometimes, side pockets don’t get unpacked immediately. Maybe the person who has this product will find it in the future.”"

Some Music Reviews
These reviews are completely subjective and biased... but take my 2 cents for what they are.. I promise, I'll kinda try to be objective.
Green Day - American Idiot
- 4 Stars
This is by far Green Day's most reaching album. It contains thematic songs that suck you in. The arrangements are surprising in that a punk trio can come up with such complex melodies. This album is political. I hate political albums. But if you can get pass that, the music is awesome. A downside can be that it's too good. I've gotten sort of used to Albums that contain 2 or 3 good songs... and the rest are "fillers", or the artist's muse to "express themselves". But on this album, every song is detailed as a carefully executed presentation. That can make it over bearing though. It'll sonically punch you in the face and kick you while you're down too.... some people like that. I do too... sometimes.
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
- 4 Stars
I love this album. Going back to the old stuff that Incubus came out with, it's easy to see how they've "strayed" to many fans. The songs "New Skin" and "Glass" make the whole album great. The guitar tone is so awesome. "Deep Inside" shows the band's complexity, as they mix elevator type R&B music with some hardcore spazz. I wouldn't care about this band on music alone, but the fact that each musician on this band is so good leads me to call this album great. This album is chalked full with talent coming together to make a good salad.
Jimmy Eat World - Futures
- 3 1/2 Stars
I was never a real big fan of Jimmy Eat World, but this album is good. By the first track, the album sucks you in. It's hard mid tempo songs. Guitars are lush and drums are raw. I definitely recomend this album. I'm still not that big of a fan, but I think this album far exceeds the Bleed American album. The only song I dislike so far is the single they released. Solid play on my iPod.
The Calling - Two
- 3 Stars
The Calling minus the band. They decided to call it "Two" to reaffirm that the band consists of only two members. The singer and guitarist. I never really cared for The Calling ever since Sean (the other electric guitarist) left the band... and to tell you the truth, I was a bit upset that they dumped the other members of the band too. There are some lawsuits and stuff over that... but aside from the lame drama... the album is ok. Some songs are catchy and well recorded. It gets play on my iPod, but when I actually think about them, I can't stand the singer. Alex Band. That's his name... ironic huh? His name is Band but he can't even treat his "hired hands" like a band. His voice is definitely one of a kind... I love it. But if you've ever read his rantings on his blog, you'll see how immature and idiotic he is. I probably give the album more play than 3 stars will afford though. The music is safe and catchy... well some of them are, the rest will leave you yawning. It's a pretty insincere album. Very superficial and surface... not very deep. You'll be skipping songs to the catchy ones, then ejecting it.
Third Eye Blind - Out of the Vein
- 4 1/2 Stars
This is a great album. Anyone who's seen Third Eye Blind live knows that they suck. In fact, they suck so bad... they are on my top ten of "sucking live". But they write damn good music. Their arrangements are refreshing, catchy, and interesting enough to keep playing it. If you can seperate the studio band from the live band (they are the same band... I hope), then you will love this album. I like almost every song on this album. I rarely skip songs. The guitar tones are great and the lyrical content is up to par with the previous album.
U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
- 2 1/2 Stars
Vertigo is an annoying song. And I bought this album on faith of reviewers saying it heralds back to the day of "Joshua Tree". I love Joshua Tree... by far my favorite U2 album. But this album doesn't quite hit it. As a matter of fact, the only thing similar to Joshua Tree is the delay effects that Edge uses. Keep in mind that this album is not bad. It's really BIG... lots of sound. Thematic and Swirly. But it's a far cry from Joshua Tree's simple songs... simple arrangements. I want more of Edge's guitar tone from that albumn. I think U2 has strayed far enough... and now it's too late to come back. Nice try U2.
